SAM, a Dutch leader in sustainable materials, is revolutionizing eco-friendly production by transforming cellulose-based waste into high-quality, circular panels. Using Canon’s Arizona flatbed printers, these panels are printed with exceptional quality, showcasing new possibilities for sustainable applications across industries.

Sustainable Innovation from Venlo
SAM, a Dutch pioneer in sustainable materials, is setting new standards for eco-friendly production. Operating from Venlo, The Netherlands, within walking distance of Canon Production Printing, SAM specializes in transforming cellulose-based waste streams – sourced from both natural products and the printing industry – into high-quality panels. These innovative panels offer a sustainable alternative for a variety of applications, ranging from materials used in construction and interior design to displays and fittings. By repurposing waste into durable, reusable panels, SAM contributes to a circular economy where materials are continuously reintegrated into the production process, reducing environmental impact.

Arizona printing on circular panels
To explore new possibilities in sustainable printing, SAM’s panels were tested on Arizona flatbed printers at the Canon Experience Center (CEC) in Venlo. The results showcased not only the excellent print quality achievable on these eco-friendly substrates but also the seamless integration of Arizona printing technology with circular materials. These printed panels made their debut at FutureBuild Expo in Brussels, Belgium, an event dedicated to shaping the built environment for a Net Zero future. By demonstrating how graphics and messaging can be printed on fully recyclable media, this collaboration underlined the potential for sustainable signage, displays, and architectural elements. Since the panels can be returned to the manufacturing process, they offer a truly circular alternative for industries looking to reduce waste and improve sustainability.

Next Stop: Materials District Utrecht
Following the success at FutureBuild, Arizona printing on SAM panels will take the spotlight once again at MaterialDistrict Utrecht in Utrecht, The Netherlands, from March 12 to 14, 2025. This event, known for showcasing cutting-edge materials to architects, designers, and industry professionals, will be the perfect platform to highlight the advanced capabilities of PRISMAelevate XL. By combining sustainability with high-end print applications, Canon and SAM will demonstrate how printed surfaces can go beyond traditional graphics, adding depth, texture, and creativity to a wide range of design projects. As the demand for environmentally responsible solutions grows, this collaboration sets a strong example of how digital printing and sustainable materials can work together to shape the future of the industry.

Stay tuned for more updates on Arizona printing and its role in sustainable large-format printing!
