Luxury wallpaper workshop uses Colorado printer to reproduce its unique artisan designs
Unique artisan designs
Le Presse Papier is a luxury wallpaper workshop founded by Sebastien Barcet, bringing together his love of art, culture and creativity. The design boutique is based in the Croix-Rousse district of Lyon, France, which was the beating heart of Europe’s silk trade and remains famous for the quality of its textiles.
The company’s artists combine time-honoured techniques with contemporary trends and exhibitions to craft beautiful wallpaper designs by hand. Their work has often been showcased by major Parisian fashion houses and interior design magazines, so producing products of the highest quality is crucial.
Le Presse Papier previously used a non-Canon wide format printer, but increasingly found it couldn’t fully express the creativity of its experts – or meet its ambitious business and sustainability objectives. So they approached Canon for help.
“With UVgel technology, we have a matte effect on our papers, which we’ve been seeking for years now. We have a colorimetric stability and dimensional stability that we’ve never had before.” – Sebastien Barcet,
Introducing: the Colorado with UVgel technology
The Colorado used by Le Presse Papier is a high-quality digital inkjet printer that helps the company bring its artists’ visions to life.
“With UVgel technology, we have a matte effect on our papers, which we’ve been seeking for years now. We have a colorimetric stability and dimensional stability that we’ve never had before.” – Sebastien Barcet, Founder, Le Presse Papier
UVgel inks use a unique ‘print-then-cure’ technology with instant-dry gel inks, cured with UV LED lights. These are ideally suited for the quality of Le Presse Papier’s designs, delivering vibrant colours, scratch and scuff resistance, and the versatility to print on many kinds of paper and fabric.
Critically, the Colorado does not use solvents, so the business can be confident production doesn’t involve any toxic products.
“We can say that the Colorado meets our quality requirements perfectly – and our customers’ requirements.”
Unrivalled versatility
Le Presse Papier use the Colorado to produce durable prints on a variety of media, including SAVs, polyester textiles, heat-sensitive materials and plain paper. The stretchable formulation of the UVgel inks provide perfect image stability, even when prints are folded, bent and stretched.
Breakthrough productivity
The Colorado has helped Le Presse Papier shorten lead times with fast output speeds and rapid job turnaround. Two media rolls with online switching and ink refill during printing ensures non-stop production for unmatched productivity.
Improved automation
Constant nozzle monitoring, convenient automatic printhead maintenance, and automated media feeder means Le Presse Papier can take a hands-off approach to operation.
Highest quality at lower cost
Canon has helped Le Presse Papier reduce ink use, lower service costs and use more cost-efficient media while maintaining quality and accuracy.
A vision for the future rooted in history
Le Presse Papier’s raison d’etre is to preserve traditional excellence. It’s one of the reasons the company remains firmly rooted in Lyon’s storied history of Jacquard loom workers and world-famous silk markets.
Now Le Presse Papier is sharing this heritage with the world – while unearthing exciting new expressions of the art form along the way. Its blend of modern technology and classic artistry means they can uncover new possibilities and explore new frontiers – so Lyon will continue to be known for exporting a uniquely French expertise to customers around the globe for years to come.
